Budapest’s Shoes on the Danube Bank Memorial

Honoring the Jews who were killed by the fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II. The Jews were ordered to take off their shoes and were shot at the edge of the water, so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. The memorial highlights the victim’s shoes that were left behind on the river’s bank. It is located on a popular Budapest promenade just a few minutes walk from the Hungarian Parliament.
